We Learned About the Birds and Now the Bees…

The Secret Life of Bee is one of my all time favorite books. I remember the first time I read it: the way I lingered on the words, the way I became engrossed by the setting, the way I felt at home with the characters.  I hope that it has the same affect on you.

As you read, post it using your P.I.N.S. sheet. You do not need dense quotes; however, at the beginning of each chapter is a quote about bees, write the quote and after reading the chapter, explain how the quote relates to what you read. Like To Kill A Mockingbird, this book takes place in the south, but some 30 years later.  As you read, think about the social climate as compared to that of Maycomb county.

I hope you enjoy,

The Queen Bee

“The queen, for her part,  is the unifying force of the community: if she is removed from the hive, the workers very quickly sense her absence. After a few hours, or even less, they show unmistakable signs of queenlessness.” -Man and Insects
